(U-WIRE) STORRS, Conn. --
Calling him degrading and offensive, members of the University of Connecticut Women's Center Political Action Committee are protesting a comedian who is scheduled to perform at Husky Blues Friday night. "Dr. Dirty," John Valby, a comedian and classical pianist who sings songs peppered with sexual and raunchy lyrics, will take the center stage at Husky Blues tonight at 9:30 p.m. despite the public outcry on campus over his visit.
"His lyrics are extremely offensive, and they bash homosexuals and African Americans. It's a free-for-all and it's horrible," said Kari Ann Ermer, a volunteer at the Women's Center. "He's a really offensive guy, and he should be banned from coming to campus ... Freedom of speech is great, but when it gets this offensive it shouldn't be tolerated." After being notified of the event through an anonymous letter, members of the committee asked the Women's Studies department to send out numerous e-mails and a petition against Valby to students on campus. The e-mails tell of some of the comedian's song lyrics and call for a boycott of his performance.
It is the third time that Valby, who often wears a patented white suit and top hat, has been booked to come to the night club, located below the Store 24 on Route 195. The comedian from Buffalo, N.Y., has turned his lewd melodies into a career and has performed in venues across the country. Beth-Ann Ryan, an intern at the Women's Center who is helping several other students organize a protest tonight, said that the group hopes Husky Blues won't book the act anymore.
Ryan and other members of the group plan to stage a protest in the Store 24 parking lot from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and pass out flyers in opposition to the show. "It's billed as an X-rated show, but they don't give the content," Ryan said. "The lyrics advocate violence against women and other minority groups." With explicit song titles that include "Gangbang" and "I am a P***y," Valby uses shock value to get a laugh from his audience - and he has been successful, performing around the country for more than a decade.
Tom Nanos, co-owner of Husky Blues, said the comedian has been booked to appear at the club once a semester and averages an attendance of more than 350 patrons. It is the first time that his club has received calls and e-mail messages in opposition to the performance, which is expected to be sold out tonight, he said. "I admit that it's controversial and racy," Nanos said. "If he wasn't drawing a crowd then we wouldn't book him, but when people come out every time, it tells us that people want this type of comedy."
In addition to the messages of opposition, he said the club has also received numerous messages of support for the act. The club, which opened in 1995, is host to dozens of comedians and rock bands that perform throughout the year. "We're viewing this as an attempt at censorship," he said. "We've gotten a lot of messages of support basically saying that some people may not like it, but it is art and should not be censored."

Now for MY Feelings about This:
I don't believe his art should be censored either, and if they listened to any of the music they would see that he is NOT a racist and he does NOT use "shock value" to gain an audience. If they looked into it they would find that John is an excellent musician and that he began sexual material because THE PEOPLE WANTED IT!
Too many people are uptight about race and sexuality to have a good time and laugh at it. If you can't take a joke, don't go to the show - but don't deprive me of this man's genious!! It is not your right to pick and choose what I as an adult want to go and enjoy!
In the end all I have to say is -
SING FUCKER SING!!
Fan Responses:
90% of the stuff john sings about is political.
the sexual, race issue, and female bashing is just all in good fun.
ive seen john about 10 times and have never ever been offended by any of his lyrics as far as "shock value", thats a load of crap i bet 75% of the people protesting and emailing to stop john, have never heard his cd's or have seen him live. word of mouth is not a postitive thing if you dont like the "art", turn it off, leave the building, of jump off a tall building.

I am a student at the University of Connecticut, and have been listening to the arguement over Dr. Dirty. Personally, I think that people need to mind their own fucking business.
People up here are upset because of some hate vandalism that occurred last semester, and seem to believe that the assholes that are responsible have been brainwashed by the words to "Eat Bite Suck".
Well, if they dont like John Valby coming to campus, too bad. Why should the people who like him suffer just because some people are "offended" by Valby and think that he is making a personal attack against women.
Well, he is attacking women.... and men, and blacks, and gays and.... the list goes on and on. And it's all in good fun. Dr. Dirty is an equal opportunity offender, and holds back from no one.
To all who don't appreciate the "art" he has to offer, then they can put the cotton balls in their ears, walk their asses into the kitchen, and get me a fucking beer!
LONG LIVE DOCTOR DIRTY!!!!!!!!
